Uddingston’s swathes of immaculate public realm and stunning summer floral displays are thanks in large measure to Uddingston Pride – a local volunteer community. In the last decade, Uddingston has been a two-time Britain in Bloom winner, as well as winning five separate awards and gold medals from Beautiful Scotland. Uddingston residents and businesses also participate in neighbouring Bothwell’s annual Scarecrow Festival, when the village comes to life with garden displays and public events throughout September.
The charming Viewpark Gardens, one of Uddingston's hidden gems
As well as a number of residential avenues facing onto the River Clyde or across communal greens, Uddingston is home to Viewpark Gardens – a picturesque horticultural complex that comprises a series of interconnected gardens and greenhouses. Crofthead Park reopened in summer 2016 following a £250,000 refurbishment, standing in the heart of the village between a soft play centre and the iconic Tunnocks factory. Even Uddingston’s new housing estates (some of which are also multiple award-winners) have been extensively landscaped, befitting a town with so many Britain in Bloom and Beautiful Scotland trophies.
