Extra parking for Uddingston Station?

Uddingston’s train station is strategically positioned on one of the four rail lines linking Glasgow and Edinburgh, with direct access to both cities. It’s also the only station serving Bothwell and Uddingston. As a result, the 228 parking spaces spread across Uddingston station’s north and south car parks are overwhelmed with demand every weekday.

In a belated attempt to tackle this issue, South Lanarkshire Council has launched an eight-week consultation into the provision of additional parking. An additional 146 spaces are proposed at Uddingston station, extending the car park’s current footprint and improving its layout. With passenger volumes rising by over four per cent a year during the last decade (and Uddingston’s population growing considerably in recent years), extra parking at Uddingston station is desperately needed.

This is part of a wider consultation involving several South Lanarkshire train stations. Other proposals would see an additional 67 spaces added at Hamilton West, three miles south of Uddingston on the Larkhall line. Public comments are not being accepted at this time, but recommendations are due to be submitted to South Lanarkshire Council’s Community and Enterprise Resources committee this summer.
